I was sad, heartbroken, abandoned, alone, hurt, lost, drowning, starving, thirsty, on fire, couldn't breathe, health failing, mistreated, or abused... and you came to rescued me.

Fire hero dashed across eight roofs to save man from burning building
Hero Gareth Cooke launched into a mad dash across eight roofs to pull a stricken man from a burning building - right after he left the pub.

Gareth Cooke let his dogs out after coming home from the pub when their persistent barking led him to his back garden.
‘Then I heard someone shouting for help. I saw a man hanging out of a window,’ said Mr Cooke, who works for a plant hire company.

‘I just didn’t think about it and ran down to the bottom of my garden and over the wall, which was 6ft high.’
The action man then hopped on to the roof of an extension before jumping to eight more to reach the scene.
He tried to pull the victim through a window but was forced back. ‘The smoke was unbelievable, I couldn’t breathe. It actually knocked me back,’ said Mr Cooke, from Hull.

‘I told him to step back and I put my foot through the window so I could reach  him better.’ He went to rescue two others when fire crews arrived.

‘The police and the fire service said well done but I just did what anyone else would have done,’ he said.
‘I didn’t really think about it. It’s not like I do this type of thing every day.’
